AM625: ERROR: Unhandled External Abort received on 0x80000000 from S-EL1 ERROR: exception reason=1 syndrome=0x92000010

Part Number: AM625
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: SYSCONFIG,

I can use the default image to start on your board, but I can't start on the command line on the board I made, and the errors are basically in the file system startup service stage, which is as follows. May I ask what is the correlation between the errors and what causes them? Is the M core not correctly configured

  • I found the cause of the el1 problem, because my board is running on 1G ddr, but I have another question:AM62 Modify DDR, do I only need to configure and modify k3-am62x-sk-ddr4-1600MTs.dtsi, do I need to modify other files as well? No ".cmm" ".gel" found in the source code

  • After the memory configuration changes the dtsi to a 1g configuration, the EL1 error still exists. Why?

  • Hi Toby,

    can you please post the FULL boot log, including U-Boot and everything.

    After the memory configuration changes the dtsi to a 1g configuration, the EL1 error still exists. Wh

    Where did you make this change? Usually it needs to be done in U-Boot, as U-Boot will update/overwrite what's in the Kernel DTB.

    Regards, Andreas

  • I modified "k3-am62x-sk-ddr4-1600MTs.dtsi" and used "sysconfig" for DDR configuration. Also modified "k3-am62x-sk-common.dtsi" and "k3-am62x-r5-sk-common.dtsi":
    - /* 2G RAM */
    - reg = <0x00000000 0x80000000 0x00000000 0x80000000>;
    + /* 1G RAM */
    + reg = <0x00000000 0x80000000 0x00000000 0x40000000>;

  • Hi Tony,

    looks like your issue always happens after M4F remote core bringup, and the errors point to some issue with no memory being reserved:

    [ 16.618581] k3-m4-rproc 5000000.m4fss: device does not reserved memory regions, ret = -22
    [ 16.752540] k3-m4-rproc 5000000.m4fss: reserved memory init failed, ret = -22
    [ 16.787237] remoteproc remoteproc0: releasing 5000000.m4fss
    [ 16.834688] k3-m4-rproc: probe of 5000000.m4fss failed with error -22

    If I compare this with the boot log of my AM62-SK board running the 'ti-base-image' (that is cut down/is missing files, however it is functional), the relevant lines are this:

    [    4.527687] k3-m4-rproc 5000000.m4fss: assigned reserved memory node m4f-dma-memory@9cb00000
    [    4.543429] k3-m4-rproc 5000000.m4fss: configured M4 for remoteproc mode
    [ 4.556481] k3-m4-rproc 5000000.m4fss: local reset is deasserted for device
    [    4.581335] remoteproc remoteproc0: 5000000.m4fss is available
    [ 4.708398] remoteproc remoteproc0: Direct firmware load for am62-mcu-m4f0_0-fw failed with error -2
    [    4.720514] remoteproc remoteproc0: powering up 5000000.m4fss
    [ 4.726695] remoteproc remoteproc0: Direct firmware load for am62-mcu-m4f0_0-fw failed with error -2
    [    4.736374] remoteproc remoteproc0: request_firmware failed: -2

    You can see there is no error message regarding reserved memory nodes. So I would focus on getting those eliminated by making sure you have all relevant reserved memory sections also in your own device tree files. This is from our SDK files...

    $ git grep -A 51 reserved-memory arch/arm64/boot/dts/ti/k3-am62x*

    I would start out with the full set of reserved regions.

    Also note that in my boot log extract the M4F imge load itself fails ("Direct firmware load for am62-mcu-m4f0_0-fw failed with error -2") but this is not relevant to the boot process. Your error is likely related to the reserved memory issue discussed above. If not M4F, perhaps for any of the other regions such as the ones needed by ATF and OPTEE.

  • In the device tree we have the same "reserved-memory" configuration.

    I modified the DDR configuration to 1G, as described earlier. With 1G DDR configuration, this error only occurs on 1G DDR development boards, but it can start normally on 2G DDR development boards. So, do I need to change the "reserved-memory" memory address when this error occurs, or am I configuring the 1G DDR incorrectly?

  • Hi Toby,

    I noticed this thread was not fully closed out. Was this issue resolved or does it still need support?
