AM625SIP: Connecting to SMS_CM4 core

Dear TI,

I am trying to run the T Eye firmware for DDR eye measurement. I am trying it out on an EVM, later I want to use my own custom board.

The readme says at point 4: "Connect to the SMS0_TIFS_0 core". I did that using CCS (the core is called SMS_CM4_0_TIFS_0 on this SoC), but I get the following error:

SMS_CM4_0_TIFS_0: Error connecting to the target: (Error -1170 @ 0x0) Unable to access the DAP. Reset the device, and retry the operation. If error persists, confirm configuration, power-cycle the board, and/or try more reliable JTAG settings (e.g. lower TCLK). (Emulation package 9.13.0.00201)

What can I do against this error? I tried it both with booted Linux and unbooted, but the error is the same in both cases.

Hi Leon, which documentation or collateral are you following? Can you connect any other core and run examples in CCS without issues?

Hi Paula,

I am following the instructions of the readme which comes together with the T Eye tool.

I can load the A53 cores, the M4f_1, the R5_0_0 and the PRUs. The others yield this error.

On the ones which I can connect to I can run the examples and also my own programs.

Hey Leon,

It's possible you may have an HS part on the EVM you have. These parts do not allow JTAG access to the SMS core, which is okay (not a hard requirement for the tool).

The main pre-requisites for the tool are power, clocks, and DDR configuration. In your case, you should be able to follow the steps outlined in the page Paula linked above to fulfill these pre-requisites, then load the T Eye tool to an A53 of your choosing. Then you can let it run and should see output over UART on your host PC.

Hey Lucas,

I managed to run the tool now on the A53. I'm a bit confused because the readme.txt says to load the firmware on the SMS0_TIFS_0 core, not on the A53.
