During boot testing, the system occasionally gets stuck during Linux kernel boot , approximately once per 3000 boot attempts.

When connecting via CCS, all cores were found stuck in the error handling function. As shown in the memory browser, when attempting to write values to DDR through CCS, all data was reset to zero.

  • By the way, we observed an unusual phenomenon during a normal startup. Our DDR configuration consists of DDR0 (2GB K4F6E3S4HB-KHCL) and DDR1 (1GB K4F8E3S4HD-GHCL), totaling 3GB, with interleaving mode enabled. As shown in the figure, we found that the initialization values of DDR0 and DDR1 differ significantly: Within the interleaved region, DDR0—covering the address range from 0x0080000000 to 0x008000007F—has its data initialized to 0xFF. In contrast, the subsequent DDR1 segment (spanning addresses 0x0080000080 to 0x00800000FF) has its initialization data set to 0x00. Is it normal for DDR interleave region values to be different?

    Kernel logs are disabled in your system. Can you increase the log level for kernel and share the logs.

    We have enabled kernel logging and are currently conducting tests.

    During a new startup hang, we discovered a crucial clue:

    As shown in the figure below, the stack pointer variable pxStack (at address 0xA28AEF58)  of the mcu2_0 core was unexpectedly overwritten with 0x00, causing the system to hang in the stack overflow check.

    Further inspection of the nearby memory region revealed an abnormal access boundary:

    Address 0xA28AF07F is not writable, and the preceding 128‑byte range (0xA28AF000 – 0xA28AF07F, offset 0x0 – 0x7F) is filled with zeros and completely inaccessible (neither readable nor writable).

    Address 0xA28AF080 is writable, and the following 128‑byte range (0xA28AF080 – 0xA28AF0FF, offset 0x80 – 0xFF) behaves normally.

    The 0x7F/0x80 boundary aligns with a 128‑byte segmentation. In our memory map, the 0x0 – 0x7F range belongs to a segment of DDR0, while 0x80 – 0xFF belongs to a segment of DDR1.

    When the failure occurs, the entire DDR0 region becomes unreadable/unwritable and reads as all zeros, while the DDR1 region remains fully functional. What could be the reason for this?

    As i understand, you have only first 2GB interleaved memory, but the next 1GB is not. In this case, are the DDR controllers configured correctly? Also is this configuration reviewed with @kevin?

    We have found that turning DBI on (for both READs and WRITEs) helps improve eye margins; thus, we decided to turn it on by default. 

    Have you tried enabling READ DBI for DDRSS0 in your configuration to see if it has any impact on the failure? Please note that read latency should be set to according to both the frequency and the read DBI configuration.
