Audio Noise on Blaze

Hi,

When recording audio on Blaze I noted that there is a suspicious device noise in the data. See below for the spectral details of noise:

Is it a known issue? I am using a pre-built android binary and I am using the Sound Recorder App.

    Can you provide the version of prebuild binaries you are using to try?, because I haven't see any noise on Blaze. Thank you.

    Hi Israel,

    I am using prebuilt version of 4AI.1.7. I have attached the recorded .wav file. When recording the room was completely silent so I believe7026.BlazeNoiseLeft.wav this is the electronic noise introduced by the device.

    I think this is harmonic distortion from above picture.

    So you need to check with sine wave by reference signal during voice recording.

    And then please attach the picture of time domain not frequency domain by x axis.

    IMO, the result is that sine wave has some distortion not pure.

    So please adjust input gains like twl6040 gain & ABE gains by tinymix.

    Well, There is no actual input. i.e. when recording I made sure that the room is completely silent. I am pretty sure this is generated by device itself.

    The values of all the parameters for ABE & twl6040 seem to be fine except for "Analog Left/Right Capture Route".

    Are these values on recording ? 

    As you know, "Analog Left/Right Capture Route" should be one of the 3 states(Aux/FM Left, Main Mic, Headset Mic) during recording.

     

    How about headset plugged while recording ?

    Alireza,

    Try getting the log when the application is recording because when the application stops it change the path and turns off the twl6040 codec. For the log you shared it is off.

    I have one new finding. This noise is not present if I record using headset microphone. When I look at the diff of tinymix out (between two recording) this is what I see:

    Main Mic:

    It's normal state, becasue of DL1 ON in headset mode and DL2 ON in speaker mode(using builtin mic).

    But could you please turn AMIC gain down to 120 or 120 below while using Main Mic ?

    And then update the result on this.

    I think Main mic is much more sensitive, so it seems signals have some distortion.

    Anyway please check it and then let me know the result.

    Hi Alireza,

    Richard is right, you are using too big gain for that mic, even when ABE can give you more gain doesn't mean that you have to use it, you might be close to saturation due to environment noise (for minimum that it could be). Big gain is only needed in cases when you have other kind of mics that are less sensitive.

    Also you can play with gains at TWL6040 chip to reduce possible electrical noise, just check the controls: Capture Preamplifier Volume and Capture Volume.
