Other Parts Discussed in Thread: OMAP3503
I don't know about anyone else, but it is VERY frustrating trying to find flash for the OMAP3503. It appears the GPMC was optimized for NAND or oneNAND only. NOR "can" be done, if it is internally MUXed. oneNAND looks like a good option for use because in the past we have always used NOR Strataflash (J3D, P33). We need to be able to get our bootloader going from flash. The 1.8V I/O is also a pain...
Anything Samsung offers scares me because all their oneNAND parts have a EOL or Last time Buy of Q4 09. Plus I think all they care about is cellphone makers anyway. We are a low volume (<300 EAU), high mix customer and really hate having to redesign boards because parts go obsolete every 2 years. One idea I had was to fake the OMAP into thinking we were using a MUXed NOR by using a Latch on the address inputs of a P30 Strataflash. http://focus.ti.com/docs/prod/folders/print/sn74lvch32373a.html
Does anyone think this would work?
We have had good luck with Strataflash because it has stuck around for a LONG TIME and other than having to requalify it after a die shrink it hasn't required much support.
