OMAP L138 LCD UART_echo example not working

Hi,

I was trying to do the UART_echo (in starterware) example on the LCDK board. I succesfully built and loaded the code on to the C6747 through the XDS100v2 emulator. And my SW1 switches are in the following state: 1,5,6,7,8 - OFF & 2,3,4 - ON. But when I debug the code and run it, I am not detecting a UART COM port when I open tera term. I checked the device manager and there is no new COM port in it too. What could be the problem. ? Please help.

Hi Vivek,

First verify your boards serial port is working fine or not.
For that simply change boot pins for UART boot mode, and power on the device.

After getting powered up, you will see a "BOOTME" string on console.

Dear Vivek,

In addition to Arvind suggestions,

It seems to be you need UART-USB driver on your PC.

Also please make sure that you have connected the USB cable in proper console port.

Thanks for the reply aravind. I tried what you suggested, I set the switches for BOOT from UART mode namely in the order ON, OFF, ON, OFF. And I connected the USB from PC to board both with & without the emulator. Both times my computer (Device Manager) detected no new COM port. So there was no COM port for the board in Teraterm.

Thanks Titus. I downloaded the FTDI Virtual COM port drivers from the link on the WIKI page for the board. However I cant install them since my computer does not detect a new hardware when I plug in the board in BOOT mode like Aravind suggested.

Hi Vivek,
If you are not getting BOOTME message on console or if new hw is not detected by PC then you might get faulty LCDK board.
How did you buy this board ?
Through distributor or TI.com ?

Board HW version please ?

An update.
I am seeing the serial port now when I connect to UART-USB port, but not through the debugger. Should I see the serial port in device manager and in terminal when I connect through debugger. Without debugger, I was earlier connecting to the other USB otg port, which would explain why no serial port was detected before.
Cant I view data on UART terminal while using debugger?

Hi shankari,

I got this board from my Professor. I think he got i through TI university program. Anyway I remember when I used the board first time, when i tried to run the face detect demo, I couldnt get it to run. Instead of getting a prompt menu in uart for choosing the demo, i got a bootme screen then.

Yes, you can see the data on UART while working with JTAG (debugger)
Please use the correct baud rate 115200 serial with proper serial settings.

Well, problem is when I connect through a debugger I am not seeing any serial port in Device manager. Neither does my terminal detect one. All this while I have my switches in (2,3,4 ON mode).

Now when I connect directly without the debugger and I try to run the face detect demo as given in here. I get the following message on my UART.

Hi Vivek,
Your LCDK board booted Linux, this is u-boot running.

If you wish to run facedetect code, then you can set boot mode to UART (01010000:12345678) i.e 2,4 ON.

Then rebuild the facedetect code from C6SDK package, try to run the code through debugger.
