Is it possible to use the network ports in the PRUs to run Ethernet? We are developing a new instrument that will require up to 3 independent Ethernet ports.

This is not supported under Linux.

yes, if you are ok with RTOS (SysBios) there are software packages to try out. What device are you looking at?

Anyway you can check the IA-SDK 2.1.1.2 (ethernet_mac example) or any RTOS SDK (NIMU ICSS examples) first.
I don't think we have an example currently that would show 2 PRU EMACs + one CPSW on AM335x. Only the old AM335x IDK would have that HW option.

Which processor are you asking about? What do you mean by "hardware configuration? Pinmux options or something else?

The Sitara series is our current point of interest. The hardware configuration refers to the way that the additional hardware in the PRUs supports a possible Ethernet port.
