C6678 H264 HP encoder configuration guidance

Hi a customer would like to tune their current C66x h264 HP encoder and they ask us some guidance. Requirements below:

VBR and CBR

BR= 2Mbps

Resolution 1080p25

Content: Live TV

Main issue with current used configuration params is that for low bitrates (ex 2Mbps) RC is not able to achieve target BR. This is mainly due to MaxQP value been lower than 51. However, if MaxQP is 51 then Video quality gets reduced...

Hi Paula,

User can set the below configuration parameters to improve the quality & achieve the bitrate -

EncodingPreset = 1 (HIGH_QUALITY)

MaxQP I/P/B = 51 ( This is to achieve the set bitrate)

intraFrameInterval = 120 ( In lower bitrate cases, this will make huge impact. Greater the intraframeinterval, better the quality or bitrate achievement )

entropyCodingMode = 1 (CABAC)

scalingMatrixPreset = 0 ( This can be experimented. With this subjective quality will improve but Perceptial quality may degrade).

enablePRC = 0 ( This can be experimented. With this subjective quality will improve but Perceptial quality may degrade).
