AM335x GP EVM NOR flash

sanjeev majumdar

i have am335xevm board where as per the hardware user guide 16 MB NOR flash is present on GP daughter board. i want to access the NOR flash from userspace application over linux.

can anybody plz suggest that how to do that.

i tried accessing NAND flash using mtd user space but not able to access NOR flash.

Hi,

You need to set the EVM board to Profile#3 and then you can simply read from the address location.

hi
i have linux booting from NAND flash. when i put to profile 3, linux is not booting so that i m nt able to run any user app

This is an evaluation board. You cannot use NAND and NOR at the same time. In Profile #3 you can boot from an SD card.

so once i boot from sd card NOR flash shall be detected as mtd device under /dev?

Yes, but you shall reflect this change in the device tree too, by replacing the nand settings in the gpmc node with these for the nor.

shoulkd i jus given the profile#3 or should i look for other configuration also

Profile #3 is a hardware setting on the EVM board: processors.wiki.ti.com/.../AM335x_General_Purpose_EVM_HW_User_Guide Once you setup the profile on the CPLD Profile Switch the Linux SDK will automatically configure itself.

i just set the profile#3 on cpld switch and boot the linix from sd card its not detecting any nor flash (mtd device)

Hi,

Can you post the bootlog and also the relevant part of the dts file?

For example on how you should set the GPMC-NOR dts, you can refer to Documentation/devicetree/bindings/mtd/gpmc-nor.txt

Which SDK are you using? Try with SDK 6 it will detect the mtd automatically.

in the am335x-evm.dts there is no gpmc configuration for NOR flash. i checked the gpmc-nor.txt where how to configure NOR flash is given. is there any .dts file available for am335xevm where NOR flash already configured.
