Dear experts,

My customer is selecting a processor to build their platform for electronic musical instrument. Comparing AM57XX with C6000 DSP+ARM, I wonder can AM57xx be applied to professional audio? What's the difference between those two kinds of products and do we have hero products to recommend?

You should consider the DRA78x for audio processing applications.

Thanks for your reply. In fact, customer is interested in AM57xx, and wonder why it is not recommended for audio application, could you help to explain?

Hi Minqi,

AM57xx can be used for audio applications (professional and otherwise). It includes multiple McASP peripherals for audio I/O, C66x DSP for audio algorithms, and Cortex A15 for audio and networking. Note that the audio I/O interfaces on the AM57xx EVM (http://www.ti.com/tool/TMDSEVM572X) itself are limited.

In addition to Kyle's suggestion of DRA78x, the customer might also consider http://www.ti.com/product/66AK2G12.
The C66x DSP in 66AK2G12 has a larger L2 memory (1 MB) than the C66x in AM57xx family (288 KB), which may be helpful in some applications.
The 66AK2G12 also includes an "Audio Asynchronous Sample Rate Converter" hardware module (not in AM57xx).
