AM5748: Differences from AM5728

Hi team,

Our customer developed their current system with AM5728BABCXA. For next system, customer is considering to use AM5748ABZXA because customer wants to use “secure boot”. Regarding Hardware-side, customer is able to check the difference between AM5728 & AM5748 by referring “Compatibility Guide” (http://www.ti.com/lit/an/sprabx8e/sprabx8e.pdf)

However, regarding software-side, it is tough to understand what kind of difference there are, except secure-boot. Can I have your Expert’s advice/comments on this, please?

Regarding AM5748 device, as far as I can check, TI is releasing “PROCESSOR-SDK-AM57X”. I mean, it is same for AM5728. If our customer will use AM5748 for next project, could you consider that customer will be able to re-use their current AM5728’s software-environment?

For software-code which relates to CPU, would you expect there are not any change ? If customer needs to take care/ to modify some points, Could you elaborate them, please ?

It is really appreciate if you will be able to share Expert’s comments on this

All of the AM57xx devices are supported in the common Processor SDK (see http://software-dl.ti.com/processor-sdk-linux-rt/esd/AM57X/latest/index_FDS.html and http://software-dl.ti.com/processor-sdk-rtos/esd/AM57X/latest/index_FDS.html).

The Compatibility Guide you mention highlights the key differences between the AM5728 and AM5748, but they are highly compatible and the differences will be related to the hardware design and peripheral updates mentioned in the guide.

You will need to be sure to update your build environment for the AM574x target, but can expect this to be a clean migration.

Hello Dave,

Thank you for your comments. I don’t have Linux SDK environment, however, my guess is that, there are some #ifdef/#ifndef descriptions for AM574x. Therefore, I should request our customer to check this description in their environment. Is that correct?

If possible, could you elaborate this description, please? I believe it’s helpful for customer, I’d like to share this.

I also suppose it is difficult to say software-difference between AM5728 and AM5748, therefore, I will inform so, honestly.

Therefore, I will request our customer to refer User-Guide(http://software-dl.ti.com/processor-sdk-linux/esd/docs/06_02_00_81/linux/Foundational_Components_Kernel_Users_Guide.html?highlight=am574x). I think that each environment is created by each device-tree-file.

Regarding around ARM-A15/C66x, I believe there is not any difference except secure-boot. How about this would you think?

Yes, I agree. The cores are identical between the devices.

There is a change to some of the power domain management to be aware, in case the customer is using. See the AM574x TRM: Table 3-27. PMFW Device-Level Layout:

(2) PD_MPU, PD_DSP1, and PD_DSP2 are physically implemented as always-on domain
