OMAP-L138 RTC SET32COUNTER

Hello,

I'm having some trouble understanding how the SET32COUNTER bit on the Control Register of the RTC module works.

As I understand, it should replace the current value on the 32 kHz counter with whatever is present on the compensation registers. The problem is, both compensation registers together amount to a 16 bits field, and I imagine that the 32 kHz counter would be a 32 bit register.

So how does this counter set works?

Rafael,

The compensation registers allow you to adjust for crystal oscillator drift away from the target 32.768kHz frequency. The 16-bits of compensation will give you the ability to add/subtract just under 1 second of drift from the target hourly period.

The oscillator counter itself is only large enough to count 1-second increments (32,768 oscillator ticks) so the 16-bits can be used to precondition the second counter to almost any value.
