[FAQ] TDA4VM: Can CPSW 5G/9G be enabled under Uboot

Part Number: TDA4VM

Can CPSW 5G/9G switch ports be enabled under Uboot ? What are the changes required to do the same ?

  • No, enabling these switch ports under Uboot is not supported at the moment.

Theoretically it's possible to do this, but it would require a complete re-architecture of the software since these switches would have to be brought under the control of A72. A DT node would have to be added for the switch ports and PHY, and Uboot would require an integrated switch firmware driver.

The current SW architecture dictates that CPSW 5G/9G switches are exclusively controlled by the switch firmware running on Main R5F 2_0 which manages concurrent accesses by different cores. Only the data is routed directly to the virtual ethernet driver running on different cores.

    See figure below

The scope of changes required to enable this will be large and cannot be done through patches. TI has no currently plans to enable this in SDK.
