EtherCAT Master Stack on Sitara

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AM1808, AM3517, AM1810, TMS320DM642, AM3352

Is there a version of the EtherCAT Master stack running in some form on any Sitara or Stellaris chip?

I see references to a Beckhoff Master stack in the Sitara documentation, but has anyone implemented this?

Is it running in the PRU?

Any input or feedback is welcomed and appreciated!

Thanks so much!

Paul

  • Hello Paul,

Yes, we do've EtherCAT master running on several Sitara devices such as AM1808, AM1810 and AM3517. PRU is not needed for the Master functionality in EtherCAT.

Pl email me at gurrapu@ti.com and I can send you more details of this SW on Sitara.

    Enjoy your weekend!!

    Thanks and Best Regards,

  • Hi, Srik

I am also interested in your EtherCAT master solution, and I have email to you.

can EtherCAT master run on DSP like TMS320DM642? it has only one EMAC, is it enough or other EMAC chips should be used?

  • It is possible to use on a DSP as well but software porting effort will be required.

And yes, one EMAC is sufficient to run a EtherCAT master. Obviously, the EtherCAT master link redundancy feature will not be available with one EMAC port.

    Thanks.

  • Hello Srik:

Can you share more details on the EtherCAT Master?  I don't believe that we ever hooked up on this.

I have 2 customers that are intersted in this solution from TI!

    Thanks very much!

  • Hello Paul,

EtherCAT slave SW is available in eval form from TI but EtherCAT master SW is not available from TI directly. One reason for this is that EtherCAT masters differ greatly depending on the type of application - PLC, HMI or others. EtherCAT master functionality greatly differs for different applications There are several 3Ps in the industry that can help with this SW. One example is http://www.port.de/

Plus, there is no special hardware required for EtherCAT Master functionality. Any device with an Ethernet i/f can support EtherCAT master functionality.  The low-end AM335x device (AM3352) which is available at $5 in high volume is a good device for this.

    Thanks,
