66AK2H14: 10G connection to switch ic directly

Part Number: 66AK2H14
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DS100DF410

Dear Support Team,

I would like to know  that  the 10G of 66AK2H14 can connect  directly to any switch ic supported XFI interface?

If so, could you please share the reference design?

Best regars,
Kanae

  • Hi,

Yes, the device should be able to work with most of the available switch ICs.

If so, could you please share the reference design?

I've notified the design team to elaborate on this one.

    Best Regards,
    Yordan
  • Hi Kanae,

We do not have a reference design connecting the XFI interface on the K2H with a 10G Ethernet Switch. We have connected the 10G Ethernet XFI interface to an SPF+ card cage through a  DS100DF410 retimer.  This was implemented on the RTM-BOC available from Mistral Solutions. More information can be found in this post

  • Hi Yordan and Bill,

    Thank you for quick reply.
Even if you do not have a reference design connecting the XFI interface on the K2H with a 10G Ethernet Switch,
it is possible to be connected directly 10G of 66AK2H14(XFI interface on the K2H) to any switch ic supported XFI interface as Yordan said, isn' t it?
Or you recommend to follow the reference design which connected the 10G Ethernet XFI interface
to an SPF+ card cage through a DS100DF410 retimer, don't you?

    Best regards,
    Kanae
  • Hi Kanae,
If the interface on the Ethernet switch is a true XFI interface, you should be able to connect it directly to the K2H. We didn't use an Ethernet switch on any of our evaluation boards so I am not aware of the interface used. The switch would have to support a MAC to MAC connection if the K2H was connected directly.
