NAND flash probe issue (can't probe flash device at BSP version 3.02.00.03)

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRA742, PCF8575

Our custom board using DRA742 and with NAND flash just like DRA7xx evm board. We can recognize NAND flash device at older BSP version(7.04.00.03). But after we upgrade BSP to newer version(3.02.00.03), kernel can't recognize NAND flash.

We only modify dts file, the relatived files are =>https://e2e.ti.com/cfs-file/__key/communityserver-discussions-components-files/791/dts_5F00_files.7z

at [ 0.410771], system say "could not find pctldev", but it won't happend at old BSP version

Is there anything i should modify for new BSP version to recognize?

    We do not currently support NAND Flash on our processor sdk linux automotive releases .

    Some tips to help.

    1) Apply patches on 2017.01 u-boot , if you are working on a older u-boot please backport them accordingly /cfs-file/__key/communityserver-discussions-components-files/791/6087.nand.zip

    2) DIP Switch settings (sysboot) : 10000100 10110100

    3)uenv.txt in SDcard boot partition as "root=ubi0:rootfs rw ubi.mtd=NAND.file-system,2048 rootfstype=ubifs"

    Here are related files(https://e2e.ti.com/cfs-file/__key/communityserver-discussions-components-files/791/related-files.7z  ) used for our custom board and i already apply all patches, but still can't probe NAND device. Can you help me to figure out what might be wrong with our setting?  

    note-1: In patch-2, i also send our dts file(CAX50_ADAPTER.dts) for you reference.

  • Hi Ram,

    Update our flash info.
    The DRA7xx evm board use MT29F2G16AADWP NAND flash.
    Our custom board use MT29F2G16ABAEAWP-AIT NAND flash.
    According to agents say thay only different at ECC Algorithm. The one at evm support 1-bit ECC algorithm, the other one at our custom board support 4-bit ECC algorithm

    At patch-0009 you gave to me to modify evm.c file,  there is a if-condition to check nand_sw_detect(). In our custom board, it seems condition doesn't satisfy, so miss below settings:

    delta_pads = dra74x_nand_padconf_array;

    delta_npads = ARRAY_SIZE(dra74x_nand_padconf_array);

    After i force these two lines to execute, the system can recognize NAND device. Are these two lines necessary for NAND device recognize?

    I think is because there is no PCF8575 device at our custom board.
    BTW, are below two lines necessary for enable NAND device?
    delta_pads = dra74x_nand_padconf_array;
    delta_npads = ARRAY_SIZE(dra74x_nand_padconf_array);

    Because GPMC related pin define already set at mux_data.h, why i still need to use dra74x_nand_padconf_array?

    Another question want to confirm,

    At evm.c, the patch modify  int ft_board_setup(void *blob, bd_t *bd) function, try to update DTB to enable NAND in the OS.

    But the comment also say "Perform fixup only on DRA74x EVM". If i don't use this part of patch, kernel still can probe NAND device successfully.

    My question is "should i use this part of patch at our custom board" ?

    Since on custom board nand_sw_detect() is not applicable, the patch to set fdt seems not applicable.
    If NAND is detected without this change, there won't be any issue.
