PROCESSOR-SDK-AM437X: PRU migration from UIO

Hi,

I have been looking for a migration tutorial in order to get my code in C using UIO for am335x to work on am437x. I found a migration guide on the ti support but the instructions weren't developed and I can't make it work following it. I also tried to modify the prussdrv with the right registers but it didn't work either.

I'm using CCS Compiler on Linux OS target

Could you help with that task please ?

UIO has been obsoleted from a long time now. The current method is RemotProc. Here are some wiki materials:

Hi,
Thanks for the quick answer !
I knew that and I could make a new development with the Remoteproc and RPMsg. But I am aiming to use the UIO soft I already made in order to save development time.

Are you aware of any resources or guide in order to achieve that ?

What UIO resources (besides loading the firmwares) are you using? Moving to RemoteProc to load the PRU firmware should be fairly trivial for you (you will just need to add a resource table to your binary). However, if you are making use of the direct memory mapping (mmap) or events functionality of the UIO driver then the porting will be more difficult as these are gaps in our current remoteproc/rpmsg implementation.

Support for the UIO driver (and the Debian distribution) will need to come from the BeagleBoard Community forums: beagleboard.org/discuss. There is not a BeagleBoard board that uses the AM437x device but they may be able to provide pointers for porting uio/prussdrv to that device.

Let me know if you need any help moving to the remoteproc/rpmsg framework in the Linux Processor SDK.

Hi Jason,

I am not allowed to discuss the application, it is too sensitive to discuss on line.
But basically what I am looking for is an example of the use of the new RemoteProc that show how to write from ADC on the memory. Then read that memory with the AM437x and the other way around.

I tried to add a new resource table but it didn't work so I gave up that way. Maybe I did it wrong, what would be easier to do ?

Here is a quick start guide that will walk you through all the steps to run your first RemoteProc/RPMsg example:

That example will also show you how to rebuild and re-run the RPMsg examples that are provided. The code for the examples is included in the Linux Processor SDK 'example-applications/pru-icss-x.y.z/' directory as explained on the wiki page. The code can also be found on the git repo here: git.ti.com/.../PRU_RPMsg_Echo_Interrupt0_0

For the most simple example possible (that also shows how to add an empty resource table) you can look at the PRU_Halt example here: git.ti.com/.../PRU_Halt. The PRU_Halt example shows how to include an empty resource table header file in order to allow the generated binary file to be loaded by the Remoteproc Linux driver.
