What is the Maximum memory card(eMMC) size that we can use in Jacinto J6 Evaluation board and what is the max eMMC size the SoC supports?

From the given link i understood J6 SoC supports only SDHC so its upto 32 GB. Does J6Ex+ supports SDXC?

Hi, Ganesh H ,

All J6, J6Eco and J6 Plus devices have same support. None of them supports SDXC.

As per Technical reference manual it says no hardware limitation. What is the issue with file system? Usually linux file system doesn't have this file system issue.

Also J6 supports 4 slots so is it possible to do 32X4=128GB.

Hi Ganesh,
I think that denotes only a possible limitation if file system. And it can be the FAT32 limitation to make a partition bigger than 32GB, and since SD cards can have typically only one partition, I think that note envisions SD cards.
And yes, J6 has 4 ports, and the 4 controllers are the same, they theoretically can support eMMC, but in practice, only MMC2 and MMC3 are 8-bit wide, and among them, only MMC2 is typically used for eMMC. I'm not aware of exact MMC3 limitation to connect eMMC, but I know that typically MMC3 is for SDIO cards.

Please note that the FAT32 limitation is more related to SD cards (they have a single partition only) than to eMMC memories.
You are free to use a file system of choice, the only limitation of using non-FAT is that ROM code is not able to boot from it.
Still, you should be able to boot from a dedicated eMMC boot partition in Raw mode. I'm copying here the eMMC boot modes from the TRM:
• Raw (Boot): The booting image is read from one of the selectable partitions in raw mode (this mode is
also called Alternative Boot Operation mode and applies to eMMC only).
• Raw (UDA): The booting image is read from the user data area (eMMC and SD).
• File system (FAT12/16/32 with or without master boot record): The image data is read from a booting
file within a file system in the user data area (eMMC and SD).
