CCS/TMDSDSK6713: Why Code Runs Slower When I Run from SDRAM in DSK6713 @100Mhz?

Part Number: TMDSDSK6713

Tool/software: Code Composer Studio

Hi Dear,

I am using DSK6713 development kit. When I configure Linker command file(.cmd) to use IRAM the code runs very fine and LED blinking guarantees that. but when I try to use onboard SDRAM at 100Mhz , it seems that code is running at slower speed then IRAM. Woould you please suggest some recommended configuration for SDRAM @100MHz?

Thank you

Nisar Ahmad

  • Hello Nisar,

Have you already referred to the support page for this development kit?

    c6000.spectrumdigital.com/.../

I recommend taking a look at the device datasheet and EMIF reference guide as well.

Please take a look at these and let us know if you are still having issues.

    Regards,
    Sahin

  • Nisar,

Just to state the obvious, memory internal to the chip will always be faster, sometimes much faster, than external memory. In my case using the 6713, I checked the EMIF config registers for my external memory, and it turned out they were set to the default delays for access timing, which were huge. Setting them appropriately for our SDRAM made a big increase in speed.

  • Thanks Lloyd for your reply. I have also configured the parameters which were required to access the sdram in external memory interface but still it's  slow .maybe I haven't configured them properly. Is it a good way to place stack and data sections in internal memory while text section in sdram?

  • Thanks Sahin the your support. I have checked and found that emif interface for sdram uses 90Mhz in dsk6713. I actually configured that to 100Mhz in my code and I programmed all sdram related configuration in emif initialization of sdram according to 100Mhz. 225Mhz is core clock. However I am still reading more on this and may come up with some good idea to speed up this interface.
    Thank you
  • Nisar,

There's a lot of internal memory in the 6713. I run all my code from the internal memory, as well as putting the variables there.
