Linux/AM3358: Profibus support

I know that at the moment there aren't any implementations for Profibus in Linux. Have you done any decisions to change that in near future?

My actual question is, would it be possible to use at least the same PRU programs, which are made for TI-RTOS, from Linux userspace (with Remoteproc and RPMsg)? So one had to do "only" the stack part for Linux or is there a difference in PRU programs if they are for Linux or for TI-RTOS?

Hi JHI, Being honest I am not familiar with Remoteproc and RPMsg. However, our PSDK + PRU-ICSS Industrial Software architecture allows portability to other OSes. We have an OSAL layer which can be used as a reference for porting to other OSes. Below picture helps to show PSDK OS-less SW blocks.

HI Paula,

unfortunately that doesn't answer to any of my questions. For the profibus to work in Linux, first of all I would need the PRU programs in bin compiled. The RTOS version has them only in header form. And the next question is, are they made compatible to RPMsg? If yes, where can I get the API?

Hi JHi, let me try to summarize some key points I got after discussing with a colleague.
- Current PRU-ICSS Profibus doesn't not support RPMsg.
- Potentially, we can convert PRU-ICSS Profibus firmware to a format which can be loaded using RemoteProc driver. From what I learnt, RemoteProc driver needs a resource table section in the elf binary, and then rebuild it as a .out.

Also, let me add a couple of comment, PRU-ICSS Profibus firmware is not currently released as source code. Also communication between PRU and ARM would need special care as Linux Kernel space has some restrictions.
