Linux/DRA74: Waylandsink: Videoplay back is hanging in trick mode

Hello Team,

We use custom h/w and software based on DRA746 and SDK 3.02.00.03.

We are facing issue with trick mode for couple of files. Normal playback is fine, but trick mode is failing.

I have tried with gst-play as well and trick mode hanging with this as well.

gst-play-1.0 --videosink=waylandsink <file path>.

Use ARROW LEFT/RIGHT for Seek back/forward.

Sharing the file through portal.

One more query related to video hand issues:

As we have multiple video hang issues. Upon further debugging, it is found that hang is happening in gst_buffer_pool_acquire_buffer in hardware video decoder plugin. We observed that even if normal playback is done, the video hangs after few seconds at the same function “gst_buffer_pool_acquire_buffer” inside hardware video decoder.

Please provide your inputs for this as well.

Hi Ikshwaku,
Are you observing hang issue for only wmv streams or any other formats also with trick-mode?
What is the commit-id of your ipumm? There was one hang issue with VC1 decoder with trick-mode and this is resolved in PSDKLA3.04.

Looks like your database is missing this fix.

Hello Ram,

Trick mode hang issues are mostly for WMV and MPG files as of now.
I have tried two ipumm version:

SRCREV = "fd441443a4289c801a0c8d9f00b6966f7fe3476c" --> default with PSDK 3.03
SRCREV = "01bbb622267b687fa05e42062b146ad7a22e7afd" --> took from VSDK 3.04

And issue is seen with these two.

Hi Ikshwaku,
PSDKLA3.04 also doesn't seem to have the fix. Check this commit-id which talks about hang with trickplay for wmv streams.

Please check if you can upgrade your ipumm to this commit-id and try.

Hi Ikshwaku,
I tested few mp4 files with h264, mpeg4 and mpeg2 formats with gst-play application.
After we seek with Left or Right Arrow, playback immediately resumes but with wmv streams, playbak doesn't resume.
Is that what you call hang?
I tested with few more wmv streams , I am seeing same behaviour.

Yes for WMV files playback doesn't resumes. This is the issue.
For seek with Left or Right Arrow, we see time stamp is changing, but video is not resuming.

I am observing this issue for wmv streams with software decoder also.
Are you able proper resumption on other platform with gst-play ?

I have tried with other platforms, but these files are not playable at all.
But on TI's platform files are playable and trick mode is failing.

Hi Ikshwaku,
Can you please provide me some information on this issue?
1) Is the hang reproduced with a first trick-play with HMI or you need to try multiple iterations?
2) Once you say hang, will be able to start a new playback ?

From my initial analysis, when trick-play is performed, all the buffers will be flushed out and when you try to resume parser needs to feed an I/IDR frame first and if it is a P or B frame, decoder will not be able to start.

I need time to confirm if this issue the issue.

Hi Ikshwaku,
I am seeing issue with asfdemux element for this issue.
When I execute gst-play-1.0 --videosink waylandsink Wildlife.wmv and Seek with Arrow Right, video looks hung, asfdemuxer is not sending data to vc1parse.

I have verified this with software codec also.
Remove libgstducati.so and libgstvpe.so from /usr/lib/gstreamer-1.0 so that software decoder avdec_vc1 is selected. The execute
gst-play-1.0 --videosink "waylandsink use-drm=true" Wildlife.wmv

This also show same issue with Seeking with Keyboard Arrow Right .

From the debug logs asfdemux is not sending data to decoder.
But I don't see this issue for BMW stream.It is working fine but gst-play says "cannot seek"

Hello Ram,

If i remove libgstducati.so and libgstvpe.so from /usr/lib/gstreamer-1.0 then I am getting following error and no output on the display.

Try with this. I could play the stream and behaviour same here also.
i,e after seek with Arrow Right , video stuck on display
