Hi all,

This problem only occurs on Windows 10. I had no issues on Windows 7. However, most of the PCs are running Windows 10 nowadays.So I post the question separately here to see if anybody had the same problem and had the solution as well.

The problem occurs when I start Beaglebone Black from USB peripheral mode. Windows 7 detects it as a "USB Ethernet RNDIS" network adapter device. However, Windows 10 detects it as a "USB serial" device automatically. I could not manually override the driver to be "USB Ethernet RNDIS".

Please help if you have a solution to this problem. Thank you in advance!

And what is the usb gadget driver you used on Beaglebone Black?

I built the images using Yocto build system from:
Tag "rocko-18.0.3" from git://git.yoctoproject.org/poky
Tag "ti2018.03" from git://git.yoctoproject.org/meta-ti
MACHINE = "am335x-evm"
Default u-boot configuration is used (am335x_boneblack_defconfig).

Also, use the TI pre-built images:
software-dl.ti.com/.../am335x-evm-linux-sdk-bin-05.02.00.10.tar.xz

Both behave the same with Windows 10.

Windows 10 detects "USB serial device" at boot loaders, even before it runs to the Linux kernel.

Matt,

I don't use Beaglebone Black with Windows 10, but I searched this issue on internet, and found that this appears to be a common problem not only with BBB, but also happens with other vendors' community boards. I don't have a solution, but it seems to be a Windows 10 problem, you might want to get help from BBB community or Microsoft.

Hi Bin,
Thank you for the answer, although a bit disappointing. I just thought TI should have other customers reporting similar issues and may have a solution. Please update me if you've ever found out a solution. Thank you.

Matt,

Sorry for the disappointment. BBB is a community board, even though the TI Processor SDK Linux provides a Linux package running on BBB, we don't typically validate all the corner cases with BBB, plus most of our engineers use Linux PC when working with the TI embedded processors, so we don't have much experience on setups with Windows PC. I think you might have a better chance to have answer from the Beagleboard community.
