TMS320C6747: AISgen Tool

Part Number: TMS320C6747

I have one question regarding AIS gen tool.

According to the following TI wiki, AISGen must run with administrative privilleges.

----------------------

Please run the AISGen and the HexAISGen utilities under administrative privileges. For AISGen tool, you can right click and open as administrator

----------------------

But our customer uses AISGen tool with general privileges, not administrative under Windows7.  And the generated bin file works fine with DSP C6747. It is no issue.

As to customer report, the output result (it is bin file) differs when AISgen D800K005 is executed with administrative privilledges (right click → run as administrator) and when executed with general privileges on Windows 7.Could you let me know the difference between them?

I appreciate your quick reply.

Best regards,

Michi

  • Hi,

The administrative privileges are recommended so that the user that runs the program does not encounter access issues to some commands or files that the tool needs to access. It is similar to running a linux command (from the console) with sudo.

  • Dear Yordan-san,

Thank you for your quick reply. It is very helpful.

I would like to confirm the below. Please give me answer of the below questions.

Customer's bin file made by general privileges works fine with C6747. And the bin file with administrative privileges differs from the bin file with general privileges.

    1) Customer should remake the bin file with administrative privileges? Or can customer continue to use this bin file (made with general privileges)?
    2) Why does the bin file with general privileges differ from the bin file with administrative privileges?

    I appreciate your support.

    Best regards,
    Michi
  • Hi Michi,

I am not a windows user so I cannot completely verify this. In linux, if you use "administrative" or sudo rights to create a file, the OS marks it as file that only root users (or administrators) can access. This should be similar in windows, that is why your customer sees different files when executing the AISgen tool as administrator or as a user.

If the bootloader boots the board, there shouldn't be any issues. However, to be absolutely certain I'd recommend to follow the user guide and run the tool as administrator.
