TMS320C6657: If C6657 CVDD can use the fix voltage power supply?

Part Number: TMS320C6657

Hi all,

If C6657 CVDD can use the fix voltage power supply?

I'm not sure what the purpose of CVDD AVS SMARTRFLEX function? Save the POH or used for power consumption saving?

thanks!

  • Hi Denny

I am reconfirming with previous datasheet owner however I think CVDD needs to support SR and it should be almost considered mandatory.

From the datasheet specification it is assumed that SR is used.

Additionally the hardware reference guide has the following note

    http://www.ti.com/lit/an/sprabi2d/sprabi2d.pdf

    2.2.1 CVDD

CVDD is the adjustable supply used by the core logic for the KeyStone I device. KeyStone I devices use

adaptive voltage scaling (AVS) to compensate for variations in performance from die to die, and from

wafer to wafer. The actual voltage for CVDD can vary across the range specified in the device-specific

data manual and will be different for each device. Each KeyStone I device needs an independent power

supply to generate the CVDD voltage needed by that device. That CVDD power supply must use a

SmartReflex™-compliant circuit. SmartReflex is described in Section 2.2.1.1. This power supply circuit

must initialize to a level of 1.1 V and then adjust to the voltage requested by the SmartReflex circuit in the

    KeyStone I device.

My understanding is that it is more to do with power savings/power consumption.

So recommend that your customer adheres to these recommendations in our collateral.

  • Denny,

Per the DM for C6657, use of AVS is required.  We do not classify whether this as a POH limiter or only a power limitation.  The device is not rated for operation without AVS.
