AM6546: Recommend PMIC

Part Number: AM6546
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TDA4VM, TPS6594-Q1, TMDX654IDKEVM

Hi,

My customers are looking for PMIC for AM6546.  I checked EVM and it was discrete.

Will PMIC(or Processor SDK) for AM65x be released?

Other Sitara series have recommended PMICs, we are expecting.

Regards, Rei

  • We recommend using two TPS65941x PMICs, similar to what is done on the TDA4VM EVM.

We don't have a reference design for the AM65x device.

    Regards,

    Kyle

  • Hi Kyle,

Thank you for your reply. I checked the TPS6594 TRM.

I would like to propose two TPS65941x to the customer.
    (TPS659413, TPS659411)

    Question 1:
TPS6594 have only Q1, are there Non-automotive products?

    Question 2:
When will Automotive(TPS6594-Q1) and Non-Automotive(TPS6594) products be released?

    Question 3:
I heard that TMDX654IDKEVM(Revision 2.0) will be released. Is TPS6594 used for new EVM?

    Thank you for your cooperation.

    Regards, Rei

  • Rei,

Hi, we are currently evaluating the recommended PMIC solutions for the AM65x processor family. We will be releasing an industrial version of the TPS6594 device later down the line (timeline not confirmed, but likely to start sampling next year).

Currently, there is a discrete option available. We are evaluating PMIC solutions for functional-safety use cases, as well as non-functional safety use cases.

Can you share whether this industrial application would require functional safety? Also, what factors are driving interest in a PMIC solution over the discrete solution already available?

    Thanks,

    Nastasha

  • Hi Nastasha,

    Thank you for informing me.

Currently, I'm competing with other A53 processors, and it's difficult to adopt AM65x.
Other processors have recommended PMIC, so customer can easily create a power supply circuit at low cost. However, AM65x don't have recommended PMIC, which is a concern for adoption now.

Their applications don't require functional-safety. Given customer's schedule, TPS6594(Industrial) is difficult.
I would like to suggest in TPS6594-Q1, so please let me know the mass production date if possible.

    Regards, Rei

  • Rei,

TPS6594-Q1 is targeted for first quarter 2021 (by end of March). Can you share the customer production date target? This will help us understand what PMIC options can fit in the timeline.

    Thanks,

    Nastasha

  • Hi Nastasha,

Thank you for your reply. Production date is targeted for April 2020.

I would be grateful if you have the fitting PMIC solution.

    Best regards, Rei

  • Rei,

I checked back with my peers in the PMIC team, and it looks like we will not be able to release a PMIC solution for AM65x until the second half of 2021. This means you would have to go with discrete options until then. Please feel free to keep in touch with your local sales representative to get updates on the AM65x power solution timelines.

    Thanks,

    Nastasha

  • Hi Nastasha,

Thank you for telling us when pmic will be released. We suggest discrete options.

    Regards,

    Rei
