[DM6437] McBSP SPI DX/DR Pins question

A typical SPI protocol has MISO, MOSI data pins, and the data pins change their pin state (input/output) by the active mode (Master/Slave).

Since I read McBSP user guide, it only describes how the data pins connect to a master device or a slave device, so the pin state depends on hardware circuit ?

In other words, I must decide the active mode before circuit routing, and the DR/DX pin state is unchangeable if I want to change active mode (Master/Slave) during the device working ?

  • ZXZ,

Yes, the DX and the DR pins are not bi-directional and therefore can not interchange roles. Here's a note that adds more detail in the figure 42/43/44/45 in the userguide.

    1) If McBSP is SPI master (CLKXM = 1), MOSI = DX; if McBSP is SPI slave (CLKXM = 0), MOSI = DR.

    2) If McBSP is SPI master (CLKXM = 1), MISO = DR; if McBSP is SPI slave (CLKXM = 0), MISO = DX.

    regards,

    miguel
