TMS320C5515 24 Bit SPI Flash Boot Image Encryption

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TMS320C5515

Hi,

Im using C5515 DSP with 24-bit SPI flash for application code.I do not have any other memory interface other than 64mb mSDRAM.

The  document "Using the TMS320C5515/14/05/04 Bootloader - SPRABD7C" mentions that the 24-bit SPI flash doesn't support boot image encryption but the TMS320C5515/14 Silicon Revision 2.0 Silicon errata mentions only the Encrypted reauthoring and Bound to device mode is not supported for 24-bits SPI. Even though the Silicon errata holds precedence over SPRABD7C Doc, I want to conform whether the 24-bit SPI flash supports encrypted boot with device bound mode.

Has anyone tried to encrypting boot image on 24-bit SPI flash and been successful?

Regards

SK

  •  Hi,

24bit SPI is not supported for encrypted as mentioned in the latest bootloader doc SPRABD7C .

    Hope this clarifies.

  • Hi Vasanth,

    Thanks for the response.

Sorry this does not clarify my doubt.

The silicon errata 2.0 (SPRZ308D) for TMS320C5515/14 section 2.1.6 says 24-bit SPI supports encrypted boot mode and encrypted and bound to device boot mode but not encrypted reauthoring and Bound to device boot mode, but SPRABD7C document section 1.2 says encrypted mode is not supported with 24bit SPI serial flash. My dilemma here is which document holds precedence over the other. Usually it is the errata but both the document were revised on July 2015.

Am I missing something here ?

    Regards

    SK

  • Hi Supreeth,

The Boot-loader application notes "SPRABD7C " holds good. As mentioned earlier 24bit SPI is not supported for encrypted.

The documentation error with respect to errata is noted and taken up for update/correction. Thanks for letting us know.

    Hope this clarifies.

  • Hi Vasanth,

    Thanks for the clarification.

Its a bit disappointing that C55x doesn't support encryption only for 24-bit SPI. Is there any plan to add encryption support for this in the near future?

    Regards,
    Supreeth

  • Hi Supreeth,

At present there is no plan to add encryption support for 24-bit SPI.
