AM4372: High Speed Connection between AM4372 and an FPGA

Part Number: AM4372

Hello,

I would like to establish an high-speed connection between AM4372 Sitara processors and an FPGA on the same board.

One option that came in mind was QSPI interface, since there shall be a custom IP in the FPGA. But the datarate would be low for my application.

Other better option could be a MAC-to-MAC connection using RGMII. This looks better to me. But could this be done?

OR I would be willing to learn any other options to establish an high-speed connection between the Sitara and the FPGA

Kind Regards

  • Hello,

MAC-to-MAC connections are not supported on this family of devices.

Have you considered USB? You don't mention the BW needed for your application, but High Speed USB @ 480Mbs would be easy to implement and I would expect that there are USB modules available for the FPGA that could be used to connect to AM437x. Note that the USB controller in AM437xx is "dual role" meaning that is can be configured as a USB Host or USB Device.

If USB 2.0 BW is insufficient, there are several other parts in our portfolio that support PCIe Gen2 @ 5GTs and/or SuperSpeed USB @ 5Gbs. These include AM57xx and AM65xx.
