AWR 1243 : Initial phase changed in every frame.

The radar emits electromagnetic waves against a stationary surface, and the initial phase value of each frame of the fixed position echo has an upward trend. The phase of each frame is different. What is the reason? Can the same initial phase be fixed for each frame?

       Thanks for your patience. Can you please confirm you are not seeing a change in phase for each of chirp and in the chirp config you are changing the phase every frame?

  •  Thanks for your reply. Here, we can approximately regard  that  the phases change slowly and slightly, as the plot shown. The change in phase for each chirp is small,while, it is biger at the  initial  chirps of a frame. We have not config the phase of every frame.  Every chirp and frame  have the same setting.

        Unless you are changing the phase per frame, I think its not possible to happen. Hope you are using the latest DFP package for AWR1243 device. Also, can you please share the config of frame/chirp that you use so that we can verify it our end.

  • We have not changed the phase per frame. The setting is the simple one as the paper "mmWave Sensor Raw Data Capture Using the DCA1000 Board and mmWave Studio" shows. No other changes.

        I have checked with the team internally, it seems like they are suspecting temperature change could be the cause of this issue. Maybe during frame idle time the device reduces temperature and suddenly during frame start, there is an increase in temperature that could be the phase change spike at the frame start.

  • The frame period is only about 26ms,the idle time is only 0.2 ms, I do not think there is an suddenly change of the temperature.

  • Here,the right y-axes is not  applied. Only the left y-axes is applied.   It seems that the earliest 1243 chip did not show this phenomenon. But that evaluation board was lost.

  • No , it is a  common phenomenon for 2243 chip. We test three 2243 chips, all have these phenomenon.
