AFE7950: Support for Microsemi RT PolarFire FPGA

Part Number: AFE7950

Hi Team,

For an upcoming project where we are making a scientific instrument revolving around AFE7950 (or to be more specific, the space application-based unit AFE7950-SP), and for the FPGA solution we are still considering different vendors.

One of the FPGA families we are interested in is the PolarFire one from Microsemi. I was wondering if you can confirm if AFE7950-SP can work together with PolarFire FPGAs (data exchange via JESD interface and control exchange via SPI interface). Are there possibly any reference designs supporting PolarFire FPGAs?

Kind regards,

Željko

  • Hi Zeljko,

The PolarFire dev kits should be compatible with the AFE7950EVM as long as the FMC connectors has the transceiver lanes and clocks connected. Most dev kits that have an FMC and follow the Vita-57 spec will be compatible.

At this moment we do not have any reference designs for the AFE79xxEVM and PolarFire FPGA. We plan to add this once we have a PolarFire dev kit in the lab and add support for PolarFire FPGAs in the TI JESD204 IP, but we do not have a timeline for this yet.

    Regards,

    David Chaparro

  • Hi David,

Thanks for the reply. Good to know that this support is planned in the future.

    Kind regards,

    Željko
