AFE7920EVM: 'cpldRegProg._pin0 - cpldRegProg._pin7 : write failed' warning

Part Number: AFE7920EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AFE7950EVM

Hi Team,

I was trying to use the AFE7920EVM and upon running the devInit.py script during the initialization stage I get the following errors:

cpldRegProg._pin0 : write failed

cpldRegProg._pin1 : write failed

cpldRegProg._pin2 : write failed

cpldRegProg._pin3 : write failed

cpldRegProg._pin4 : write failed

cpldRegProg._pin5 : write failed

cpldRegProg._pin6 : write failed

cpldRegProg._pin7 : write failed

I tried resetting the device (soft reset and hard reset via SW1) and I also restarted Latte multiple times, but these warnings are raised every time.

I found also this post (https://e2e.ti.com/support/rf-microwave-group/rf-microwave/f/rf-microwave-forum/951514/afe7920evm-afe7920evm-and-tsw14j56reve-bringup-using-latte) where another user reported such warnings (but he also had additional errors in later stages). Following advice given there, I increased AFE7920EVM voltage to 6V and current limit to 5A, but the same issue persists.

Could you provide any insights into this behavior?

Kind regards,

Zeljko

  • Hi Zeljko,

In Latte we are not using the CPLD for the AFE programming so any errors on the CPLD can be ignored.

  • Hi David,

That's good to know, thanks for the info.

However, I am still concerned a bit, because these warnings are new and they did not appear before when using AFE7920EVM, and we also do not currently see then with AFE7950EVM, so my concern is that something is possibly wrong on the evaluation board. Thus I am wondering should I completely ignore them, or could they be an indicator of a potential issue that is yet to be identified.

If you can confirm that I can completely ignore these and that they are not indicative of any other faulty component on AFE7920EVM, then I can consider this issue resolved.

    Kind regards,

    Željko

  • Hi Zeljko,

Yes, errors regarding the CPLD can be ignored.
