AFE7906: questions related to Evaluation Board

Part Number: AFE7906
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AFE7950EVM, LMK04828

Hello,

My customer plans to design AFE7906 evaluation board consisting of 2x AFE7906s and 1x LMK0428 by referencing the AFE7950EVM.
They have two questions as follows.

Q1:
Though there is a CPLD on the AFE7950EVM, the customer AFE7906 evaluation board also required it? Or they do not need it on their board?

Q2:
They would like to two USB ports (Please refer to the following block diagram).
Can Latte control/communicate with the two USB ports with no issues?

Best regards,

K.Hirano

  • Hi Hirano,

Though there is a CPLD on the AFE7950EVM, the customer AFE7906 evaluation board also required it? Or they do not need it on their board?

CPLD on the AFE7950EVM is not being used. Due to unavailability of this CPLD part, we stopped populating this on AFE7950EVMs. So they don't need it on their board.

    Q2:
They would like to two USB ports (Please refer to the following block diagram).
Can Latte control/communicate with the two USB ports with no issues?

If the connections from FTDI4232H (USB chip used on AFE79xxEVM) to AFE79xx and LMK04828 on customer's board are made exactly as on the EVM, Latte (AFE79xx EVM control software) can be used to control their board. Note that if these connections are modified, Latte cannot be customized to support their board.

If they use two USB ports and two FTDI4232H chips, two instances of latte can be opened to control each USB port with one instance of latte.

    Regards,

    Vijay
