AFE7950EVM: Regarding the EEPROM code

Part Number: AFE7950EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AFE7950

FT4232H is being interfaced with 93LC46B-I/MS Microchip EEPROM, how to configure that EEPROM, which code goes on that? I am planning to use the same FT4232H chip and Latte to configure my custom board with AFE7950. How can it be done?

  • Hi AK,

That EEPROM is only for storing the FTDI, serial number, name, etc.  It does not store any kind of code for the FTDI chip that could then be used to load a register file to the AFE7950.

  • Can I use FTDI chip without EEPROM, will it work?

  • Chances are it would function however none of the information about the chip would be saved, like the serial number.  This means that every time the USB initializes the link, the serial number would change making your code difficult to maintain.  If you want to explore this option further, we suggest that you submit a request to FTDI directly to see their recommendations on running the FTDI chip without  the eeprom.
