AFE7950-SP: Decoupling capacitor placement in AFE7950-SP 4T4R1F Reference Design

Part Number: AFE7950-SP
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AFE7950EVM

Tool/software:

Hi TI team,

We are using the AFE7950-SP in our design, so we are referring the below reference design

https://www.ti.com/tool/TIDA-010260

Design name - AFE7950-SP 4T4R1F Reference Design

In above design we see the decoupling capacitor being used are of 0402 package. The AFE790-SP IC pitch is 0.8mm so we need the reference layout for this EVK to see how decaps are placed within the small airgap available?

As per our understanding and trial we are not able to fit 0402 capacitor in AFE fine pitch unless we place it in cross but that also compromises one decap per pin in design.

  • Hello TI team,

Gentle reminder - kindly respond here.

  • Hi Garima,

Our recommendation is to follow the AFE7950EVM as this will give the best performance for the AFE. If you are not able to use the same amount of decoupling then the recommendation is one decap of 0.1uF for every two DVDD balls. Please reference the 'AFE79xx_Schematic_Layout_checklist.xlsm', which is available in the AFE79xx secure folder, for further recommendations.

    Regards,

    David Chaparro
