Designing GC5330/37 for Envelope tracking functionality

Hello sir,

When we are using GC5330/37 for only ET purpose,

                       1) Is the sampled output of PA needed for GC5330/37 for ET operation only?

                       2) Since I have only low power upconverted RF as input, Is it possible to use IQ demodulator with ADC's output as baseband data input to GC5330/37 for ET operation only ?

                     3) To configure GC5330/37 for ET functionality what are the peripherals required ?

Regards,

  • Hello,

The GC5330/GC5337 ET function is not currently supported on the Digital EVM.  The GC5325 EVM does have an application that discusses the ET function.

In general, ET is based on the BB Tx input which has been interpolated, mixed, CFR applied and there are two choices for the ET input, before DPD or after DPD.

The GC5325 has a upto 61.44Msps complex input that could come from either a complex baseband source, or a down converted RF to a quadrature I and Q output.

You will need an FPGA to format the IQ data from the ADC, or a digital function to convert the real sampled IF to quadrature.  The sampled output would need to be converted to the proper BB format, with a interleaved IQ 16bit CMOS input at 122.88Mhz clock rate, SDR format, of I then Q for the GC5325.

Ken Chan (kenchan@ti.com) can be contacted for the ET application note, for the GC5325 EVM.  It requires a special connector to be installed on the EVM, you need a special interface device, and the 3rd party Drain Modulator.

The use of ET functionality for either the GC5325 or GC533x family requires a special NDA for the Drain Modulator.  Please contact your local TI Field Application Engineer (I think this is Purna for India), related to obtaining NDA or more information.
