TRF2443

Hello,

I wish to evaluate the TRF2443 for my project. I looked into the datesheet but could not find the information regarding the following:

1) Up to what modulation has it been tested? ( x-QAM?)

2) The receiver bandwidth. The mixer is followed by a configurable LPF from 2 to 11 MHz but having seen errors in TI's datasheets I wished to reconfirm.

3) The lowest input power the receiver could take in? (i.e., receiver sensitivity).

Shashank.

  • Hello,

    1)  The TRF2443 is designed-in to an application using 28MHz channelization BW (IF) with 128-QAM modulation.  However, our customer has reported good results using 512-QAM as well.

    2)  The configurable low pass filter shows typical 3-dB bandwidth ranging from 1.8MHz to14MHz as shown on page 63 of the datasheet.  However, the guaranteed BW for this filter is from 2MHz to 11MHz allowing for worst case process variation in the fab. The TRF2443 is flexible in that the user can bypass the integrated filter and extend the baseband BW to greater than 40MHz corresponding to an IF BW of greater than 80 MHz.

    3) RX sensitivity is application specific(modulation and BW) and usually defined at some BER for a given SNR required.  The TRF2443 is flexible in that it can be configured to handle many modulations and BWs.  It has a very low noise figure (~4dB) with a maximum gain exceeding 86dB.  Therefore, determining the sensitivity of TRF2443 requires some application and system requirements.  We have developed a GUI tool that allows the user to change the configuration of the TRF2443 and see the effects on gain, IP3, and NF.  This should aid a user in determining how the TRF2443 can be integrated into one's system.  This tool can be found at

  • Hello Christian,

Thank you for answering the questions in detail. It is a lot more than what I expected :)

I have some more questions and was hoping that you could answer them. They are as follows:

    1) What is the transmit bandwidth?

    2) May I ask if you have data on the data rate and the corresponding modulation it has been tested?

    2) On page 42, a little is mentioned about IQ modulator phase correction. Is there a provision for amplitude correction?

    3) Is there a provision to monitor the transmit I,Q signals apart from the loop back. The loop back includes the demodulator and the imbalance in the demodulator may lead to uncertain measurements.

    Thanks again,

    Shashank.

  • P.S.

The GUI link does not seem to open. May I ask you to have a look?

  • We are working to put this GUI on the external TI website.  In the meantime, can you email me directly at yots@ti.com and I will send you the file.

    Thanks,

    Christian

  • 1&2)  The transmitter has been tested up to 56MHz BW with 512-QAM.

    2)  There is not a provision for amplitude correction on the TRF2443 as the layout has been carefully designed for matching.

    3)  Monitoring the I/Q signals should be done at the input to the TRF2443.

    Thanks,

    Christian
