TRF371109 graphs in datasheet

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TRF371109

I'm looking at the graphs in the datasheet for the TRF371109, and I'm a bit confused by the difference between fig. 1-11 and fig. 12-26. As I understand it from the table of graphs (which doesn't match the 'See Notes' labels on the graphs) fig. 1-11 were collected with a wide bandwidth balun, and fig 12-26 were collected with a narrowband chip balun designed for 900MHz. However the IP3/IP2 measurements at 600MHz are better with the supposedly narrowband balun. The noise figure and gain appear to be flatter in the second set of graphs as well.

Is the reduction in IP2 IP3 at low frequency an actual property of the chip, or something to do with your measurement set up/balun?

  • Both.  The IP3 and especially IP2 is especially dependent on the amplitude and phase balance of the balun.  The narrow band baluns have good balance but are, naturally, narrow band.  The device itself has frequency dependence as well.  There is higher gain at lower freqeuncies which translate to improved NF but degraded IP2/IP3.
