Issues - GC5325SEK

Hi,

We recently purchased a GC5325SEK and have been facing some issues in the course of evaluation.

1. DSP Weuffen USB-UHPI interface board

We had faced issues with regard to the USB-SPI interface in the
GC5325SEK. It was not functioning as expected. We found out from the
document SLWU063E which is available in the TI website that the switch
positions of SW5 in GC5325SEK needed to be modified in order to use the
USB-SPI interface. We were able to verify the functioning of the USB-SPI
interface.

It has been stated in the document SLWU063E (2. Hardware Setup, page 6)
that the driver software for the interface mentioned above has not been
very reliable and it should not be used. I also noticed a major change
in SLWU063E vis-a-vis SLWU063D. As mentioned in SLWU063D, the interface
used for communication with the RF section is SPI. Whereas, it has been
mentioned in SLWU063E that the interface being used for communicating
with the RF section of the card is a DSP Weuffen USB-UHPI interface
board, which plugs into J25 and J26 of the GC5325EVM. We did not receive
a DSP Weuffen USB-UHPI interface board along with the GC5325SEK.

We also found this interface to be unreliable. We are not able

to configure the board as stated in the document at all times. Moreover, we also could not successfully

complete the loop back test as well. Kindly advise as to how the loop back test can be done.

2. Matlab Scripts

We are unable to view the Matlab scripts which have been provided in the

folder GC5325GUI, after installing software provided in the CD. We are

unable to view them when opened in Matlab/Notepad/Wordpad. Which

version of Matlab would you recommend for viewing these matlab scripts?

Thanks and Regards,

  • Hello,

There has been a firmware (FPGA programming) upgrade, DSP software upgrade, hardware upgrade (adds the DSP Weullfen USB To HPI adapter board),

and GUI software upgrade for the GC5325 SEK.  If you have the ability to program the Altera-FPGA we can send you the hardware board, and the upgraded software.

If  you do not have the Altera FPGA reprogramming capability, your local TI FAE will have to perform the upgrade for you.  Adding the DSP Weullfen board also requires

you to reposition the switches on the GC5325 EVM, and to follow the newer startup instructions.  An Altera FPGA programmer is needed to update the FPGA programming.

(typical - Altera USB Blaster).  The new configuration does not use the FTDI USB to SPI or FTDI USB to UART adapters after the upgrade.

I have sent the engineer an email, about your questions, their  contain information is also provided here.

       Jim Seton j-seton@ti.com

       Ken Chan kenchan@ti.com

They will need to have your postal-mail address to send you the USB to UHPI hardware adapter.

Viewing the Matlab scripts is not required, as the software comes with a Matlab Run Time executable.  You should be able to locate the folder with the GC5325GUI software

and double click the GC5325 executable filename.

    Radio Joe

  • Hi Joe,

Thanks a lot for the information.

I would like get further information on a few things.

    a. To whom should I send the postal-mail address to receive the hardware upgrade - namely the DSP Weullfen USB To HPI adapter board ? To the TI local support or to Mr Jim Seton / Mr Ken Chan ?

    b. How shall we receive the software upgrades - DSP software and the GUI software upgrades?

I've informed the TI local support with regard to the availability of a FAE for programming the Altera FPGA. Kindly provide us with further information with regard to receiving the upgrades asap.

    Thanks and Regards,

  • Hi Prem,

Joe will be in India in the next week or so and can work with the local FAE to make sure that they can help you with  the upgrade. Please contact them to arrange a good time to do this.

I believe Joe brought a cable and a Weuffen board (with drivers) was suppose to have been sent to the India office.  Joe will also have with him the latest FPGA code and a ppt which describes how to use the new DSP-SPI feature in the GUI.  He should also be able to provide you with the latest GUI v4p120 (or higher).

If for some reason you cannot get the board upgrade and software via the local FAE or from Joe, please contact myself and Jim Seton to work on sending you a Weuffen daughter card and the necessary firmware and software upgrade.

    Regards,

    Ken.
