AFE7071: Multi-carrier supported ?

Part Number: AFE7071
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AFE7070

Hello,

I want to know if AFE7071/AFE7070 support multi-carrier transmission.

Thanks in advance,

XL

  • XL:

Yes, it can support multi-carrier; however, the baseband BW is limited to 10 MHz due to integrated LPF.  If the multi-carrier fits within 10 MHz BB corresponding to 20 MHz RF then it is not a problem.

  • Hello,

    Thanks a lot.

Could you provide more technical informations for VHF applications ? I work for AIS Transceivers (155MHz-163MHz, 25kHz BW), I would like to know more for this application case.

    Best regards,

    XL

  • XL:

The AFE707x supports up to 20 MHz RF bandwidth.  Your application requires 9 MHz so you are good on that front.  Each band is 25 kHz...very narrow band.  Yes, you can easily place as many carriers within your bandwidth as needed.  The AFE707x can transmit the entire block of carriers.  Operation at VHF frequency is no issue.  Carrier suppression from the modulator will inherently be very good at these frequencies.  Sideband suppression performance needs to be calibrated in order to maintain good performance over wide bandwidths.  The AFE707x includes QMC adjustment parameters to optimize DC offset values to suppress the carrier leakage and I/Q gain/phase adjustment to suppress the sideband.

  • Thanks for your quick reply.

Due to the short prototyping time, I will perhaps not be able to test this component. If I use it for AIS application for only one carrier (25KHz), what is the sideband suppression and SFDR that I would have ? Do you have an estimated value for these parameters ?

    Best regards,

    XL

  • XL:

At your frequency of interest the unadjusted carrier feedthrough performance is about -55 dBm.  It can be calibrated with the DC offset adjustments to less than -80 dBm.  The unadjusted sideband suppression performance is about -38 dBc; it can be calibrated using the QMC gain and phase adjustment to less than -75 dBc.

  • Thanks for your help.

    Have a good day.
