AWR1843BOOST: the maximum number of points with the mmW demo

Part Number: AWR1843BOOST

Our customer is using AWR1843BOOST with the mmW demo in mmWave SDK 03.05.00.04.

After increasing the number of detected points to about 250 points, no data is output. The behavior occurs with or without mmWaveDemoVisualizer.

A similar report can be found here: e2e.ti.com/.../2953060
"My experience with the 1843BOOST has been that the sensor will die for scans containing above ~300 points."

Does the behavior indicate the actual performance (the maximum number of detection points) of object detection by the mmW demo?

Best regards,

Daisuke

  • Hi,

The thread referred mentions some of the reasons why it is not practical to expect 300 points detection in single frame.

This means that the scene has a lot of noise and the information of the 300 points will not be very useful.

The limitations of the mmWave demo are related to memory management implemented inside the demo. The theoretical limit is 2K points

    thank you

  • Hi Cesar-san,

    Thank you for your reply.

Our customer confirmed that the data continues to be output after increasing the number of detection points after lowering the frame rate or reducing the data processing, e.g, Scutter Plot. But a reset is required to return if no data was output after increasing the number of detection points, so they want to return without resetting.

    Best regards,

    Daisuke
