AWR1642BOOST-ODS: mmwave studio without Radar API

Part Number: AWR1642BOOST-ODS
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AWR1642, DCA1000EVM

When I open mmwave studio,I don't see radar API.Here are the environment:

1)CCS 10.3 installed as the default path

2)Matlab Runtime 8.5.1 32bit

3)FTDI,download the corresponding file from the official website and update it manually in device manager. And I can see this when I plug in the awr1642.

4) VS code 2019, with

5) mmwave studio is 2.1 and the OS is windows 10.

6) RadarLinkDLL.dll is already in the folder, it's so strange that the mmwave studio can't load it.

I want to use the mmwave studio to capture raw data from awr1642, and that EVM is all I have.

  • Hello User,

Thanks for reaching us out on E2E forums.

I want to use the mmwave studio to capture raw data from awr1642, and that EVM is all I have.

You said, you want to capture data using the AWR EVM. For capturing raw data, you would need DCA1000 board for that purpose.

Please make sure to connect your DCA1000EVM and radar EVM to your PC and make sure the Windows Device manager locates all 6 COM ports (2 for the radar EVM and 4 for the DCA1000EVM) before launching mmWave Studio.

Also, one more thing I noticed is that you have a different version of visual C++. Please Install Microsoft Visual C++ 2013 Redistributable package if using a Windows 10 machine. The link is provided in the mmWave Studio User guide.

  • Thank you for replying!

I have already installed Microsoft Visual C++ 2013 Redistributable package from the user guide's website, and I have tried x64 and x86 version. But none of them worked.

And I noticed that I have many different versions of Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable, but I have no idea why they appear in my computer, maybe they were installed when I installed my vs code 2019, so is that the reason?

  • Hello User,

I would suggest connecting the DCA1000 and the AWR board first and look for the correct number of COM ports in the device manager.

Let's make sure the correct FTDI drivers are also installed.

I'm not sure if multiple versions of Visual C++ can create issues, will check with the concerned team internally and get back.

  • Thank you again for replying!

As I don't have DCA1000 now, so I will put the problem of mmwave studio aside for a while. But I still have this related issue:

Can awr1642 process successive frames? If yes, are there any instruction texts or code blocks? The docs in SDK demo don't provide any info about  the procession of successive frames.

  • Let me explain my situation in detail.

I want to use awr1642 to detect human respiration, which needs to use successive frames. I don't see any labs in mmwave_automotive_toolbox 3.3.

Can awr1642 observe respiratory signal ?

And are there any docs or projects?

  • Hello Liu,

The Vital Signs Demo in Automotive Toolbox 3.3 can serve your purpose I believe. Please take a look at the attached link below :

Also, Since this is a completely unrelated concern to your original topic, I would request you to make a new thread on the TI E2E forum for this purpose. This will help us map you to our correct expert and in turn serve you better.
