IWR6843AOPEVM: How to use auto gain control

Part Number: IWR6843AOPEVM

◆Question

1.Why are Tx and Rx gains at the time of the sensor start automatically calculated? Why are they not a fixed value?

2.When should I use auto gain control?

3.How do I configure mmWave Stdio to measure many times with auto gain control?

4.Would you tell me what kind of principle the gains are decided on?

◆Test Condition

  • HI, there:

The TX and RX gain are programmed through profile configuration.   But during RF-INIT time, a RF calibration is running to remove the device process variation.  So that the gain will be consistent.

I did not realize auto gain control is used.  Can you give me some documentation about it?

    Best,

    Zigang

  • I appreciate your swift reply.

    ◆What I confirmed

1.Tx and Rx gains fluctuated whenever I started up a sensor.

2.The Self-transmitted reception signal strength fluctuated at the same time, too.

3.The Self-transmitted reception signal strength fluctuated when I push the RFInit button.

4.The Self-transmitted reception signal strength became fixed when I made Tx and Rx Gains fixed values using lua file every time.

    ◆Question

1.Which parameter of Profile are Tx and RxGain calculated using?

2.What kind of parameter calibrates it by RFInit button specifically? not Gain?

3.Are there the adverse effects that are thought about by fixing Gains?

  • HI, there:

Are you using radar studio to program the sensor?  What steps you are follow to get your observation in 1-4?  What do you mean by "the self-transmitted reception signal"?

    1) You can get details on the profile configuration by typing following command in LUA shell window.

    >>help ar1.ProfileConfig

    2) The RF init calibration includes a lot of calibration, including TX gain and RX gain calibration.  They are documented at: https://www.ti.com/lit/pdf/spracf4

    3) What other method are you trying to promote?  I am not following well here.

    best,
