Hello,

my customer is currently working on a project and they foresee the TDC7201; however they have an open question and would appreciate if we could please provide them with an answer.

The start and stop signal for the measurement are given in the datasheet as a pulse with a pulse duration of at least 10ns.

Is it necessary to generate a pulse or is it sufficient to make a simple jump at the input, even if it lasts the measuring time of the signal?

Hello Stani,

The TDC7201 was designed with the TDC1000 in mind which has a 10ns (minimum toggle) on the START and STOP pulses. It may be possible that it could accept a smaller pulse width but this has not been characterized by the validation team. We are uncertain of what a smaller pulse width could do to the digital state machine in the long term so we cannot make any guarantees if a smaller pulse width is used.
