IWR6843AOP: How to handle the CAN error packets?

Hi,

We are using CAN bus on IWR6843AOP to send the data. Sometimes, the system to which IWR6843AOP is connected to via CAN bus generates error messages and IWR6843AOP goes down and is not able to recover.

How can we handle such situations? Is there a ready function for this sensor that we can use? For example to just automatically reset the CAN bus

Hi,

This response partially depends on which CAN instance you are using, but I will presume that you are using the MCAN here. If you refer to the MCAN user's manual https://www.bosch-semiconductors.com/media/ip_modules/pdf_2/m_can/mcan_users_manual_v330.pdf you will see that when the MCAN errors out, it will go into BUS_OFF state. When this occurs, the MCAN will be set back to init state (CCCR.INIT =1). By clearing this bit, you should be able to restart the MCAN controller.

Also, our CAN bus is occupied by 80% and IWR6843AOP has a hard time to send the data to the CAN bus and the performance is degraded. Is there a way and we have an assumption that it tries to send a packet to the bus but not able to and delays the packet. Is there a way to handle this?

Hi,

I would refer to the MCAN user's manual, this is the CAN controller used on the device and handles the interaction with the bus. The MCAN will send the packet as soon as it's message is the highest priority one trying to transmit. If you require further information then I would recommend you read through the user's manual to see its description of the timing and retransmit behavior.
