IWR6843ISK: Question about range detection

Part Number: IWR6843ISK

Hello

I have a question about range detection of two objects which are in the same bin

For example

1. Bin 10 has an object with a size of 100 and a phase of 30 degree

2.. Objects with size 100 but phase (180+30) degree added to bin 10

(When two objects fall by a quarter of their wavelength.)

In this case, I think that the Range FFT result for bin 10 will be zero.

(Because Bin 10 has two objects which have same magnitude but phase diff 180)

Although there are two objects in Bin 10, the measurement result is that bin 10 has no objects,

Becasue In this case bin 10 is not peak but zero amplitude . I think Doppler FFT is impossible isn't it?

I want to know how to avoid this situation

  • HI, there:

Even if one target is away from another target by 180 degree exactly.  It can't be the case for all 4 receive antennas and for all different RF frequency.

  • Hello

In order to determine if the objects are separable or not in FMCW data domain please follow the below steps:

    1. Please look at the FMCW based angle and range resolution explanation . (training.ti.com alos covers it).

    2. Based on that please compute the  resolutions for your configuration.

    3. If tobject in  scenarios fall in distinct  grid  resolution bins then mmWave data will be able to tell them apart.

Hope that helps you in deriving a conclusion.

    Thank you,

    Vaibhav
