HDC1080: Estimated lifetime of this sensor

Hello,

According to the datasheet it seems the expected life of the sensor can be affected by the environment of the sensor during operation.

Operation for extended periods of time at the extremes of the stated humidity measurement range could establish an offset but could also affect the life of the sensor.

I also understand particulate like dust could affect the reading and could also affect lifetime. In addition, exposure to too much heat during soldering and exposure to volatile contaminants in the air could also shorten the life of the sensor.

My question: is there a nominal expected lifetime or lifetime curves related to atmospheric conditions near the sensor?

Will this sensor last 5 years? 10 years? 15 years?

Hi Craig,

The average lifetime of the part is around 5 years. But this lifetime can be extended if the sensor is not exposed to chemicals, high temperature/humidity and contaminants. The list of chemicals to avoid can be found in the silicon users guide.

Hi Pavini,

I would like to dig into this lifetime question a little further. Does TI have lifetime data on the HDC1080 that you can share with me? My team is trying to determine a maintenance replacement interval for the little carrier board we developed last year with this sensor.

I would like to respond with a range. Something like 5-10 years depending on certain exposure (as you mention).

Hi Craig,

A standard accelerated aging test known as HTOL was performed on this device for 1000 hours at 125C. If the customers end application does not exceed the max temp of the device (60 degrees), the part can last for 6 years. The lifetime of the part can be improved if the device is used around ambient temperature conditions.
