IWR1642: My board is short-circuited, please help analyze the reason.

Part Number: IWR1642

I used a standard voltage of 5V, and it was short-circuited the first time I used it.

  • Hello,

    Can you please provide some more details about your connections.

    Which port did you connect the 5V supply and what was the current rating of the supply?

    What is the part number of the supply you used?

    What other connections did you have on the board when you powered it on?

    What is the measured resistance between the 5V input on P6 and GND?

    What is the measured resistance between the USB 5V input and GND?

    It looks like the chassis ground for the USB port exploded. This is very unusual. The USB port is completely independent of the main board supply and should not have been impacted by a supply short on the 5V supply.

  • I connect the 5V supply with P6,the  current rating is 2A.

    USB is connected when power on, but USB is not connected to power supply.

    the measured resistance between the 5V input on P6 and GND is 2.90KΩ;

     the measured resistance between the USB 5V input and GND is 5.12KΩ;

  • Hello,

    The resistance to GND is a little low, I would expect > 10k ohm, however it does not look like there is a direct short between power and GND. Can you please share the details for the barrel jack you used to connect to P6? Also, please confirm if there were any modifications made to the board prior to powering it on?

    Assuming your barrel jack is compatible with P6 connector and you did not modify your board, you can begin the process of submitting a return. Please follow the provided instructions based on where you obtained your EVM from (distributor, ti.com, etc).

  • My barrel jack is OK and compatible with P6 connector. I didn't modify the board.

  • Hello Jing,

    Were you able to submit your return successfully? If so, can we close this thread?
