IWR6843: Importing antenna gerber file in MATLAB

Part Number: IWR6843

Hello,

I'd like to use one of the latest features in MATLAB (Antenna Toolbox) to import a gerber file for the IWR6843ISK Antenna and simulate its radiating pattern :
https://www.mathworks.com/help/antenna/ug/create-antenna-model-from-gerber-files.html?s_tid=srchtitle

I'd like to start modeling the antenna as provided in the evaluation board to make sure measured patterns match simulations, before creating my own custom antenna.

For now, I could find the Gerber files for the entire PCB on TI's website: https://www.ti.com/tool/IWR6843ISK , but was wondering if a Gerber file for the antenna part (only) could be made available ?

I do not have access to Altium software suite and isolating the antenna part may be a bit cumbersome.

I'd be glad to share the script to import the antenna gerber file and run the simulation if it could be of any use to others.

Thanks for your support.

Regards

Gerald

  • Gerald,

Gerber files are generated for the full board for the fabrication purpose. Unfortunately Gerber files are not available for the Antenna section only.  You may want to check with Mathwork team for pruning certain section of Gerber files to extract Antenna regions.

Typically such features are available in Antenna simulation tools such as HFSS/CST. For accurate antenna characteristics you may want to use such 3D EM solvers.
