IWR6843AOPEVM: IWR6843AOPEVM object resolution

Part Number: IWR6843AOPEVM

Hi Guys,

We need your help to check our customer's concern regarding the object resolution for IWR6843AOPEVM

1.  Maximum range is 12.79m and range resolution is 12.5cm. Can you tell us the object resolution of iwr6843aopevm?

2. In test 12m distance 20cm*20cm*20cm box only recognized in point for a second and disappear for tracing i set up allocationParam 0 0 0 1 2 2, trackingCfg 1 2 1000 20 20 260 100 90

-can you trace 20cm*20cm*20cm box in 10~12m? if be able to tracing, can you tell us the setting figure?

3.In close distance detection is diffused, Can you tell us why this diffused detection happen? and how can we solve diffusion?
e.g. in front of sensor fist is detected in diffused position

4. For tracking 20cm*20cm*20cm box or similar size object in 2m, 4m, 6m, 8m, 10m, how can we set up?
They have set up profileCfg 0 60.5 7 7 69 0 0 50 1 256 6000 0 0 48

I have referred the customer on some technical reference but still need your feedback on this. www.ti.com/.../swra553a.pdf

Thank you in advance for the support.

  • Hi,

Can you please let us know if you are using the out-of-box (OOB) demo or any other specific demo available in the TI mmwave radar Industrial toolbox? For ex:C:\ti\mmwave_industrial_toolbox_4_7_0\labs\area_scanner\68xx_area_scanner\ demo is specifically designed to recognize objects that are stationary.

    1.  Maximum range is 12.79m and range resolution is 12.5cm. Can you tell us the object resolution of iwr6843aopevm?

Can you please let us know what you mean by Object resolution? Are you referring to how large of an object can be detected by radar at this distance?

    2. In test 12m distance 20cm*20cm*20cm box only recognized in point for a second and disappear for tracing i set up allocationParam 0 0 0 1 2 2, trackingCfg 1 2 1000 20 20 260 100 90

Let us know if the area scanner demo specified here helps

    4. For tracking 20cm*20cm*20cm box or similar size object in 2m, 4m, 6m, 8m, 10m, how can we set up?
    They have set up profileCfg 0 60.5 7 7 69 0 0 50 1 256 6000 0 0 48

Please refer to the demo for details.

  • Hi Sudharshan,

Sorry for the delay. Here is the customer's response below.

1.Iwant to know the smallest "size" of object the radar can detect and track in 10m and the farthest "range" which the radar can detect and track 20cm*20cm*20cm paper box or similar size thing

    2. In test i make 20cm*20cm*20cm paper box and test in "area scanner" set profileCfg of STANDARD MMWAVE SDK COMMANDS 0 60.5 7 7 69 0 0 50 1 256 6000 0 0 48 allocationParam of TRACKING COMMANDS 0 0 0 1 2 2 but in 10m radar can only detect a dot occasionally or accidentally, detecting not maintained how can i detect 20cm*20cm*20cm paper box in 10m in area scanner?

    Thank you for checking.

  • Hi,

the document mmWave Radar Sensors: Object Versus Range details the detected object size at different distances. Please take a look at this document for information.

Area scanner provides an example for specific case but there might be further tailoring needed as per the specific requirement.
