AWR1843BOOST: IQ error (imaginary part value up to 8000)

Part Number: AWR1843BOOST
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DCA1000EVM

Hi Team,

We would like to ask your help regarding the customer's inquiry below.

Our AWR1843boost does not measure the imaginary part as we expected. We use the radar with a DCA1000EVM and in several measurement we register an imaginary part very high as shown in the attached figure. Usually it is between -200 to 200 AU, but in some measurement it goes up to 8000. If the measurement is long (30 minutes) the imaginary part is always bigger than 8000. I attached also the radar configuration.

Danilo

  • Hi,

    Is this a new DCA1000?

Does this problem happen with all configurations?

Does this problem happen with smaller number of ADC samples such as 256?

    THank you

    Cesar

  • Hi Cesar,

Thank you for your response. We have received this feedback from our customer.

    1. we bought the DCA1000 in 19-apr-2021. The lot. is 0806202001.
    2. the problem happened with the configuration with frame rate very slow (from 100 ms to 400 ms). We are trying to achieve 1 km of unambiguous range. The radar works (and we saw clear and correct targets up to 800/900 m) just for the first 1500/300 frames, after that the imaginary part is completely wrong as you can see in the screen shot.
    3. we used 1024/2048 samples.

In general when we use the frame rate of 10/20 ms with unabigous range of 150/300 m the radar worked correctly.

    Danilo

  • Hi,

My feeling is that there is some data corruption. Since you are using a high number of samples, it is possible that some samples are dropped.

Can you increase the packet delay in the dca1000 configuration to check is anything changes?

    thank you

    Cesar
